About Sasquatch

Sasquatch is music festival that is hosted every year during Memorial Day Weekend at the one and only Gorge Amphitheater. Sasquatch Music Festival was founded in 2002 by local Pacific-Northwest concert promoter Adam Zacks. Since its existence, Sasquatch Music Festival has been critically acclaimed as one of the top notch music festivals in North America. Since its founding, Sasquatch has continued to display rapid growth in terms of popularity, scale, and the different styles of music present.

I, personally have gone to Sasquatch Musical Festival for two years now, but the experience I had there last year, in 2015, was like nothing I've ever been a part of. The first year I attended (2014) I was one of maybe 15 people in a group that really was not too tight knit of a group, but I still has the experience of a lifetime and promised myself and others that I would be back the next year. So, that's exactly what I did; In 2015 40 of my best friends and I departed Eugene in a 10 car caravan with The Gorge as our final destination. All of my best friends from Eugene were attending, as well as 5 of my closest friends from home who made the trip all the way from Southern California to attend the festival. We arrived, set up camp, and the weekend went exactly as expected. We all left the festival after a grueling 4 days of dancing and not sleeping closer than ever and so grateful for the experience that we were able to create for ourselves. Sasquatch 2015 is something that I, personally, will never forget and is something that will forever be impossible to replicate, but that's what makes it so special to me, and to all my friends.

The Gorge

The Gorge is easily the most naturally beautiful concert venue I have ever attended. It sits beautifully along the Colombia River Gorge in George, Washington, which is miles from any sort of real civilization, which does nothing but add to the concert / camping experience as a whole. Once the weekend starts, nobody leaves and nobody comes in, it's like a completely different world once the sun comes up Friday morning.

Memories from The Gorge

Below I have selected some photos that I think best summarize our weekend as a whole, all of which feature friends of mine that I was luck enough to share the experience with.

Pictured above is the lineup from Sasquatch 2015, which consists of some of my favorite bands of the year, as well as some of my favorite bands ever. Most of the music consists of live instrumentation, which is consistent with the type of experience the festival attempts to create.

Favorite Acts

Tame Impala

Monday  •  Main Stage

This set was easily one of the best performances I have ever seen, the sun was setting beautifully on The Gorge, which combined with the music created one of the most indescribable moments I have ever experienced.

Father John Misty

Saturday  •  Bigfoot Stage

Father John Misty was probably the most anticipated set among my group of friends and boy did he impress. His performance was amazing, the crowd was incredibly engaged, and so much love was shared between me and my friends. I think we all sang, at the top of our lungs, almost every single word and when his performance was over we all felt as if we had just returned to earth after being somewhere that felt like heaven should.

Kendrick Lamar

Monday  •  Main Stage

Kendrick Lamar put on an incredible show that created energy in the crowd unlike anything I had ever seen at The Gorge before that. We were up on the hill, which is above "The Pit" so we had an incredible view of the entire crowd and could feel the energy pulsing through us. Our entire group was present for the set and it marked the end of the festival, which created a range of emotions, but mostly ones of pure bliss.

James Blake

Sunday  •  Bigfoot Stage

I came into the festival knowing that James Blake's set was no doubt going to be one of my favorite sets of the whole weekend and it 100% was. James is one of my favorite artists of all time and is just that, an artist. His stage design was incredible and the way he hold himself on stage behind his microphone and piano is truly a beautiful site. The wind was blowing ferociously but its like he, and the crowd, had no idea. He still sang with perfect clarity, hitting every single note exactly like he does on his records.
